Family Heritage Potluck and Open House 2009

April 2, 2009

The first annual Family Heritage Potluck and Open House was held this year on April 2. The event was lively and successful and included four large tables of homemade dishes contributed by families and staff with over 20 world cultures represented! Families, students and staff ate and conversed together for about 45 minutes before staff introductions and announcements began. Our resident student musician, Jesus Knunku entertained the crowd on piano.

Guest speakers included Luz Conley and Bill Quinn, parent leaders and school site council representatives. Luz and Bill recruited parent volunteers to help with our Teacher Appreciation Week activities.

Afterwards, families visited classes for short presentations and exhibits of student work.

It is always an honor to spend time outside of the school day with students and families.

Thank you to school-site council members who organized the event, including:Luz Conley, Bill Quinn, Jesse Forsland, Ron Mikuni, Nancy Krajcar, Sandy Davis, Jesus Knunku, Juan Martinez and Kate McClatchy. Thank you to Joanne Pitt and Sue Welence for your help with food and photos. Thank you Luz and Bill for the generous donations of paper products and water.
